ART at work

Culture for All is developing the project Art at Work in partnership with private and public companies noted for their involvement in the community. Art at Work is a new program that is compatible with the objectives of the organization to develop the cultural dimension in all areas of the community and make arts more accessible to the public at large.

In 2008, for the second edition, seven companies including three municipalities host professional artists at their respective workplaces, where the artists conducted workshops and interacted with employees to produce collective works of art. These collective will be were unveiled during the Journées de la culture,
September 26, 27 and 28, 2008.

Artists and companies are welcome all year long to submit proposals

Project: Jouer c'est magique!
The Abenaki painter created two murals in the hall of the CPE (daycare centre). The first illustrates the six aspects of the preschool aid program for Aboriginals, and the second, which was created with the participation of the children, their parents and the preschool teachers, gives visual form to what the youngsters retained from their stay in the daycare centre.

Jouer c'est magique

Molson

Project: Cap à la bière.
Molson employees are invited to recycle beer capsules to create a large-scale mural that will be exhibited in the entrance hall of the Molson head office in Quebec. Four old chairs and a table will also be recycled and transformed into a work of art thanks to a collage comprised of beer capsules and logos drawn from the company’s brands.

Project: Souriez
On the occasion of his 50th birthday, the family business invites the artist to lead the creation of a collective mural with its employees. It will be done on wood panels at the St-Jean-Port-Joli’s marina and be installed later on in the room Les Bâtisseurs of the company.

Project: On the occasion of the inauguration of its new offices in Laval, the company reserved a cafeteria wall where around a 140 employees participated in the creation of a collective mural under the supervision of the painter.

Project: The employees of the municipality are invited to participate in the process of creating a stained glass exploring the words of Felix Leclerc: "Les blés sont mûrs et la terre est mouillée. Les grands labours dorment sous la gelée." (The wheat is ripe and the earth is wet. Major ploughing sleep under frost). Inspired by the material, municipal employees deposit of pieces of glass in a window to create a work of light for the cafeteria of the town hall around the theme of Mother Earth.

Project: Laissez-vous contaminer par l’art!
Through photography workshops and an electronic correspondence game, employees of the Laval municipality discover the city’s art collection which consists of more than 410 moveable works and 35 permanently integrated works.

Project: OVBI / Objets volants bien identifiés
Municipal employees are called upon to build Archimedean polyhedra of the cuboctahedron variety and to personalize them through the insertion of found objects or creations of their own making. These elements will be displayed in an aerial or sculptural installation form.

En 2006, à l’occasion du 10e anniversaire des Journées de la culture, Culture pour tous a mis sur pied un projet spécial, Les Convertibles, un événement inédit de création et de diffusion de 10 œuvres collectives monumentales, réalisées dans 10 localités du Québec par des artistes professionnels en interaction avec des groupes de citoyens. (voir : lesconvertibles). L’organisme souhaite prolonger ces expériences de création qui renouvellent les rapports entre l’artiste et le citoyen avec la proposition, en 2007, de ce nouveau projet de médiation artistique : Art au travail.
